THE SAINTS IN THELORD’S RECOVERY NEEDING PROPER EDUCATION
       To carry out this New Testament ministrywe must first get into this ministry. After getting into it, we must have someproper way or the best way to help the saints in the recovery to get solidlyeducated in this New Testament ministry. …It is crucial for us to find out whatthe best way is to help the saints in each local church to get into the samethings which we ourselves have gotten into. …Based upon our experience over theyears, a good number of saints have been meeting with us year after year, yetif you check with them today, you would discover that not much intrinsicelement of the divine revelation has been really wrought and constituted intotheir being, …even more in the matter of truth. I am really concerned that notmany among us can present particular truths in an adequate way.
       Wewant to have a meeting …so living and so full of nourishment. But still, wemust carry out the saints’ education in the basic truths. Then all the saintswho have been meeting in the Lord's recovery with us for many years will getthe adequate, solid, and basic education of the New Testament economy.Eventually, they will have the New Testament ministry to minister these truthsto the unbelievers, to the believers who do not meet with us, and also tominister life to all the people. …We need a new start. After three years ofmeeting with us, the saints should have received some solid education of theNew Testament ministry. (Elders’ Training, Book 1, pp.87-88, 98-99)
 
THE NEWBELIEVERS NEEDING A PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION
[Inthe Lord’s recovery], some of you have heard my speaking until today (1986) forthirty-seven years. At that time you were still young brothers and sisters, andthe majority of you was single, but now your children have already graduatedfrom college, and many of them have become elders. Before they were born, youwere here listening to my speaking, but until today, you have not graduatedeven from elementary school. What is the reason? Human education invents a setof system which consists of six years of elementary school, six years of highschool, and four years of college, with well-planned curriculum for each year.As long as a person study progressively according to this set of curriculum,sixteen years later, he will surely graduate from college and have absorbed thehuman common knowledge into him in a systematic way. However, what I havespoken to you in these thirty-seven years is inspirational but not systematic.Hence, until this day, you may not be able to speak even on the matter ofjustification by faith. This is like you have heard of mathematics forthirty-six years and know that three plus two equals five, but when we ask youto teach others, you are not able to do so. THE NEWBELIEVERS NEEDING TO BE GIVEN FOOD AT THE PROPER TIME ACCORDING TO THE TIME ANDTHE NEED

The elders and co-workers should…carefully choosevarious kinds of messages and materials for purpose of pursuing. You have tospend enough time to pray thoroughly, observe closely the condition of thebrothers and sisters, understand all kinds of needs, know their situation inthe meetings, and find the proper materials from the ministry’s publication.Just like a mother, when she prepares food for her family, she takes care ofeveryone’s situation. Sometimes when her family member is sick, she has toprepare something special for him or her; sometimes with the change in weather,she has to buy something appropriate for the weather. You have to study andhave some common knowledge of all these things.
Matthew 24:45 says thatthe faithful and prudent slave is able to give food to the children of God atthe proper time. Here “to give them food at the proper time” has a deepsignificance. We not only give people different food at different times, but wealso prepare different food to people according to their need. This matterrequires our time to study. Sometimes when you meet a new believer, regardlessof what his condition, you speak to him about the seventy “sevens.” It is truethat what you speak is the word of God, but this portion of food does notnourish him but kill him. The word of God is life, but if you use itimproperly, it becomes something that kills people and ruins their appetite. Inthis way, they may not have the desire to come to the meetings because what hehears is not profitable to him. Perhaps I am too much, but I just what to showyou that based on the principle of giving food at the proper time, we have toprepare messages for the pursuing in different kinds of meetings. This matteris critical in the progress of the meetings. Whether a meeting is profitable orattractive to man all depends on this matter. TEACHING THE NEW BELIEVERSREQUIRING WE OURSELVES
 
TO KNOW THE TRUTH THOROUGHLY

The first and foremostthing is that we ourselves have to know the truth. This is like teachingmathematics. If our mathematics is not good, it will be very difficult to teachothers. The truth that we mention is mainly the truth concerning the church. Wehave to teach people that they may have a thorough understanding of the church.
 
 
TEACHING THE NEW BELIEVERSREQUIRING CONCISENESS AND CLARITY
 
 
       Whenwe go to teach people, we have to try to make everything simple. This islikened to a couch teaching people basketball. He first teaches them basicmovements, hoping that they will practice all these basic movements until theyare dexterous. Then when they are playing in a game, they do not necessarilyplay according to the couch’s basic movements; rather, they use the basicmovement flexibly. The goal is just to throw the ball into the hoop. I hopethat we all understand these two aspects. On the one hand, we have to beequipped with the truth; while on the other hand, we have to be concise andsimple to present the truth to the new believers in a clear way. TEACHING THE NEW BELIEVERSREQUIRING THE TRANSMISSION OF SPIRIT AND LIFE
 
 
One thing we have to pay a special attention to isthat the messages which we choose must contain a few crucial verses at thebeginning. Every time we gather together, we have to pray read these verses soas to allow the Lord’s word to be sowed into us. The Lord’s word is living,operative, and full of power. I hope that when people come to our meeting, theywill receive nourishing and truth and be able to testify that we are for thepreaching of the gospel and the expounding of the truth. Both spirit and lifeare in the truth. The reality of the truth is spirit and life. Thus, thegenuine teaching of the truth is:
First, to transmit and dispense into people thespirit and life which are in the truth. For this reason, we must be one wholives in spirit and life.
Second, the curriculum itself is a series ofmessages, and there is no need for the teachers to explain anything or addnotes. The material is already very rich and clear. What the teachers have todo is to take the lead to learn together. If the teachers take the lead tolearn the line, the main focus, the general outline, the big points, and thesmall items of the curriculum, read them out one by one, and read them intopeople, then it will be their supply.
Third, the teachers’ spirit has to be released, andthey should not be shy or coward. Only when your spirit come out can it stir upthe saints’ spirit. Then everyone will be sobered to practice seriously andreceive the transmission.
Fourth, prior to yourteaching, the teachers first have to be prepared, not on the material, but tohave a thorough study of the outline and learn how to work the outline intopeople and leave them a deep impression. (The Vision And Specific Steps for ThePractice Of The New Way,p. 331 in Chinese)
 
NOT TEACHINGTHEOLOGY BUT MINISTERING THE TRIUNE GOD AS SPIRITUAL FOOD

       The nature of the Summer School of Truthactually is not a matter of teaching but of ministering or serving. …We may usea restaurant as an illustration. A restaurant is not for teaching about foodbut for serving food. Those who serve in a restaurant do not merely give peoplea menu and then teach them about food. Instead, the serving ones supply otherswith different courses of food for eating. The principle should be the samewith what we call the Summer School of Truth. …Our intention is not to givepeople a “menu” and then teach them about God. Our intention is to serve, tominister, God as different “dishes” for eating.
       Thesituation of today’s seminaries is very different from this. Seminaryinstructors …mainly teach theology, the mere knowledge about God. They do notminister God Himself to the students. We do not want …to resemble a theologicalschool. Our school should actually be a “restaurant” serving the Triune God tothe …saints.
 
 
BRING PEOPLE TO THE TRIUNE GOD
 
 
       Ourgoal is to bring …people not to the lesson books but to bring them to theTriune God through the lesson books. Our lesson books should be a channelthrough which  …people are brought to theTriune God. …This means that your aim is not to teach the lesson book but tobring …people to God through a channel of the lesson book.
       Throughyour teaching, your serving, …everyone in your class should be brought to God.You need to labor to bring every …person in your class to the Triune God, sothat by the time you have finished all the lessons, the students in your classwill have gained the Triune God and will have been filled with God, not withmere knowledge about God in letter. (Teacher’s Training, Chapter 1)
 
 
NOT TEACHING DIFFERENTLY FROMGOD’S ECONOMY
 
 
       In1 Tim 1:3-4 Paul spoke to Timothy, one of this closest so-workers, saying,“Even as I exhorted you, when I was going into Macedonia, to remain in Ephesusin order that you might charge certain ones not to teach different things. Wemust take heed to Paul’s charge not to teach differently from God’s economy. Webeliever that since the time of the apostles God’s economy has not beenstressed as much as it has been stressed in the Lord’s recovery, especially inthe past twenty years. God has a great plan – to dispense Himself in HisTrinity into His chosen people. Our teaching must be governed by a view ofGod’s economy.
       …Youshould not have any burden, any view, or any vision other than God’s economy.You need to be not only burdened with God’s economy but also soaked andsaturated with God’s economy. In your teaching you should know only one thing –God’s economy. You should be able to declare, “God’s economy is my burden, myview, and my vision. My entire being has been soaked in God’s economy, and Iknow nothing else.” To be sure, you will teach many different lessons, butevery lesson will be structured with God’s economy.
 
 
FANNING INTO FLAME THE GIFT OFGOD
 
 
       In2 Tim. 2:2 Paul charged Timothy to commit to faithful men the things which hehad heard from Paul. These faithful men should be those who are competent toteach others. In order to fulfill this commission, Timothy himself had to be onfire. This is the reason Paul reminded him to “fan into flame the gift of God”which was in him (1:6).
       Godhas given us two precious things – His divine life and His divine Spirit. Nowwe need to fan the gift of God into flame. …We need to open our entire being.Open your mind, emotion, and will. Open your entire soul, open your heart, andopen your spirit. Every morning we need to go to the Lord and open ourselves toHim. …Before you go to teach, you must first fan the gift into flame. The moreyou open, the more the fire will burn. …If your being is closed, you need tocall on the name of the Lord Jesus. As you call on the lord, open not only yourmouth but also your spirit and your heart …that will fan into flame the eternallife and the eternal Spirit within you. Fan into flame the gift which you havereceived from God. Let the gift become a flame. Then go to teach …people notwith an “ice-cold” mind but with a flame.
 
 
BEING A PERSON OF PRAYER,BRINGING IN A SPIRIT OF PRAYER
 
 
       Ifyou would go to your class …with a flame, you must be a person of prayer. Ifyou are such a person, you will bring a spirit of prayer to your class. …Thismeans that you need to create an atmosphere of prayer.
       Doyou know what a living meeting is? A living meeting is a meeting that has anatmosphere of prayer. All those who speak for the Lord know that it is easy tospeak in a meeting where there is an atmosphere of prayer. Otherwise, it willbe very difficult to speak, for you may feel as if you are speaking in acemetery. …There is no need to fan the gift of God into flame in order to teacha class in a secular school. But to teach in our …school, you must be a personof prayer, a person with a flame who brings in an atmosphere of prayer.(Chapter 3)
 
TEACHING IN ANEXPERIENTIAL WAY RATHER THAN IN A DOCTRINAL WAY

       Inorder to teach in an experiential way, you must convert every point in thelesson from doctrine into experience. Suppose a particular lesson has fivepoints. In your preparation, you should try to convert every point of doctrineinto experience. This requires practice. After making such a conversion duringyour time of preparation, you should then speak to …people about each point inthe way of experience. The more you speak in this way, the more they will beunveiled. They will see a vision that will expose them, and spo9ntaneously theywill be ushered into the experience of the very matter you have beenpresenting.
       However,if you teach in the way of merely imparting doctrines from the printedmaterials, you will do noting more than impart some knowledge to the minds ofyour students. As a result, they will gain nothing in an experiential way.Moreover, the knowledge they gain may damage them. …In the ministry in theLord’s recovery, we present our teachings not in the way of doctrine but in theway of life. …However, although we do not stress doctrine, our way of teachingconveys a great deal of doctrine. Every message of our life-study of theScriptures conveys a certain amount of doctrine, yet the impression made uponthe reader is not the impression of doctrine but the impression of theexperience and enjoyment of God, Christ, and the Spirit. Outwardly one doeslearn some doctrine, but it is experiential doctrine, doctrine that is learnedthrough experience.
       Ifyou try to convert every point in the lessons into experience, you yourselfwill be helped. You may realize that you do not know how to convert doctrineinto experience, because you are lacking in experience. This will expose you,and then you will know where you are. …Then as you are preparing a lesson, youmay begin to check yourself regarding your experience. Point by point you mayask yourself, “Do I have the experience of this matter? Is my experience ofthis point adequate? Am I able to teach others about this point in an experientialway?” …This may cause you to pray, “Lord, have mercy upon me. I need someexperience of this matter.” This is the way to prepare yourself to teach everylesson. (Chapter 4)
